Does anyone of you have any information on the school? |

I wish I could do that... oh well. It's not a problem about getting my but in gear to get the parer work started, it's the fact that I know a handful of Japanese words at best...
The best of luck to ya! ANd I hope you make it there and back in one piece.

@D3JAke: Thanks, I only know a few words of japanese myself, so that shouldnt really be a problem.
@MeAndroo: Thanks for the site, it would be very possible that it is indeed the school Iwill attend |

Shouldn't be a problem? How do you figure? Or are you talking about a couple years ago?

I think the whole point of going is learning about the japanese culture/language. They couldn't possibly expect you to fully master japanese.

Rukasu,
http://www.fsc.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/ I think this is the one if you are talking about the high school "linked" or "attached" to the Hiroshima university. Incidentally, I have been to Hiroshima once on business years ago, and my wife travels to Hiroshima once a year for past 3 years. It is a nice homely city. Have fun! ![]() Ken |

I only have two pieces of advice when in Hiroshima:
- Spend a day at the Atomic Bomb Museum - Eat lots of Hiroshima okonomiyaki |

My mom is from Hiroshima and lives there now (Hiroshima City). I visit the city once in a while and would like to give my two yen:
Hiroshima is not exactly an exciting city with only the 2 things MeAndroo mentioned and Itsukushima Jinja in Miyajima (a National Heritage site and also a World Heritage Site??) if compared with many things you might find in Osaka and Tokyo areas. But, as a high school student, I think you'll enjoy the people there and the school as well. I don't know the school, but if it is attached to a national university, it must have great facilities and faculty. You can also take weekend trips to Kurashiki (scenic city), Tottori (where you can find Japan's only and very small desert), places across the Inland Sea (Seto-naikai) to Shikoku, or even to Osaka and Kobe. I think the slower pace of life there compared to Tokyo/Osaka will bring you better enjoyment of the people. Just stay away from the yakuza and boso-zoku...

I applied for that YFU thing, i know the admissions panel werent very understanding....jerks...ohwell, i always knew i wasnt really going to get it when only 2 out of all the scottish applicants get a place, all the other places go to england...*grumble* and i had to go all the way to edinburgh by train for the interview.
I actually cried when i got the letter saying no joy....f***ers... I ended up looking for a japanese penpal instead, and years later, i spent 2 months in Japan, living with my girlfriends family....i'll never get the full experience of a japanese high-school, the days of what little childhood innocence i had left are gone, so ill never get to experience japan like that.....but at least i got a future wifeh-chan out of it. Seriously though i was totaly destroyed when i didnt get that exchange place....its arguably the one thing in my entire life i wanted sooooo much, THE ONLY THING and i was denied.... Your getting to do something absolutely special man, your getting to visit a country thousands of folk your age (and older!) can only dream of, and it will give you alot of insight into yourself, so just enjoy yourself and keep your head up and if you ever get a bit homesick, just remember, your home is still there and will be there when it is time to leave. Good luck!
