I've been wondering about the various jobs in Japan. I'm very aware of the English teaching jobs there, but i'm a bit too shy to stand infront of kids and teach them English.
So are there any good paying foreigner jobs out there? I'm actually going to major in cooking at a university in the states, are there any good chef jobs there? Any possiblities to open up a english resturant or something to that effect? And beside that what other jobs are there? Thanks so much for any information. ^^;

I'm not saying it can't be done, but you would have to be extremely good. Most places I know of would rather bring in a French chef or some other specialist...most people associate America with Hamburgers and French Fries!

If you want to open a restaurant here first you'd want to have a nice pile of money put away, so to do that you'd be best to work here, and to do that you need to have some experience ;)
I'd work hard in the US, get some experience and reputation, so when you come here you can find a good placement, and eventually open a restaurant of your own. (Wait... did I just go round in a circle there??) Theres heaps of jobs outside of teaching english, but for alot of them you need to be as good as or better than the Japanese people who usually do the job, or bring some sort of skill or experience that can't be found here. |

It can be done. There's plenty of gaijin chef's that aren't as "exotic" as the French. Helps to know people that own restaurants in gaijin-friendly parts of town (Harajuku, Shibuya, etc.). I can even think of two expat hosts... yes, that show you to your table and tell you the specials, and yes, expat meaning they make a lot of money and were imported.
