any programmers working in Japan?

Hi guys!

Are there any programmers working in Japan, on this forum? I would like to talk, ask questions about the current situation, etc...

Currently, I am not *there*. But would love to try!

If basically anything in technology other than programming counts, I can probably help.

I've talked to a few programmers, but don't have any specifically as friends. I do know that its not uncommon for stuff to be done overseas rather than have a dedicated inhouse programmer. Good start is to have some base Japanes though - good programming means alot of input with the client and sometimes end-user to finetune and get things working as required.

Thanks for replies!

I am working on my Japanese, and the reason why I'd like to work in Japan is simply that I love this country, its culture, people, language. You know what I mean, don't you

I looked at the sites, such as daijob.com, there are pretty many positions available. So, there *must* be programmers in Japan! (I'm referring to gaijins)

I'm an IT guy. Our company hires foreign IT managers, but most of the actual coding is either outsourced to India or China, or to Japanese vendor companies.

If you want an IT Job in Japan and have a University degree, I recommend trying to go to this Job Fair.

*Most* companies at the forum do expect basic Japanese abilities, but NOT all. If your grades are good, and you want to go to Japan immediately after college, it's worth a shot.

There are other headshops (Panache is where I got started) and of course, head hunters, that are a must if you ask me. I do know one person that went to Japan with little experience, and got a job coding (Java I think) for a Singapore based company.

Most programming for banks and whatnot is done in that companies home country, but you'll find groups with demanding users like to have a local person program for them.
