Oh no
My dream is to move to Japan, learn Japanese, and become a manga artist. But I heard that it's impossible. My dreams are crushed.

Who said its impossible? Sure maybe if you are a really terrible artist, it might be a slight disadvantage.
You dont even need to be literate to learn a language. Im with Mike Cash on his comment. IF it is your real dream, do something about it. You're definately not too old to start.

P.S. to the original poster.....
I hope I didn't sound like a judgmental hardass (I am a judgmental hardass, so it would be understandable if I sounded like one). I just want to point out that while the job I do in Japan was never my dream, it is one that a great many people assumed it was impossible for a foreigner to do. If I managed to do it without even the ambition of a dream behind it, just imagine what you can accomplish with action backed up by ambition and motivation. |

To the original poster... Please provide us with some more information, than this 1 sentence... what you expect us to say with only this few information???
Never give up dreaming, you only just have to work hard for it! seeing you are only 14, you still have a whole live infront of you, so why give up now?

Maybe you wont even like Japan, or you won't find learning the language to be as fullfilling as you thought, but it's no reason not to give up before you start. From the way you phrase your question it sounds like the biggest part of your dream is the ending, and the Japanese and living in Japan part are just a means to this end... if you're good at your art, you can still enjoy that where you are & where you are at in life, right now.

I agree with yukio too. Your one sentence has 3 goals. Go Japan; Learn Japanese; Be a Manga Artist. They seemed to be listed to be achieved in sequence but should they also be listed in terms of priority and importance? At 14 years old, I am sure that you still have many many possibilities in front of you. Wish I were 14 years old now with all the hope and opportunities!

Few things in life are truly impossible.
But many are difficult. If you are serious, you should start two things TODAY: 1) a Japanese class 2) practice drawing If you are TRULY dedicated to your dream, you WILL be able to achieve it. Just remember that it's a very very steep slope in front of you.

Yes, I have noticed earlier too. That's why I limited further comments myself until he provides more information. No point dragging this post with more replies until there is a clear need.

He seems to have been a drive-by poster. I don't think we'll see him again.

Dear Kirby Phelps, be aware that this kind of thing isn't impossible.
I have friends who are drawing for japanese anime-related magazines, but they have a very good level. You just have to adapt to their style and maybe as everyone stated start to learn japanese ^^ Remember that talent doesn't know any frontier. If your work is good enough, it'll even break through the language and culture barrier. Anyway good luck in your futur

as for the other guy, yeah go achieve your dreams yadayadayada... i don't really see how it's impossible. It might be difficult but it's not impossible. And like the other person said it does help if you're a good drawer. practise like-forever as well. I've got a mate who is a phenominal drawer and i never see him without a pen in his hand. I have a load of his drawings. Now all i have to do is kill him and get rich! see. always thinking. |

I wasn't aware that I had said or done anything for which I owed you an apology. Since I have a personal policy of almost never apologizing on the internet, you needn't expect one to be forthcoming regardless. It is, however, very gracious of you to forgive me anyway and I appreciate it.

Well, Hanneesh. If you click on the name, you'll see you have more than twice as many posts per day compared to Mike Cash.

What does it matter if we get off topic; the original poster is not comming back, anyway...
Hanneesh, you know me?... If my name is "Gaijinian" to you, then you don't exactly know me. But sure, I can test you. もしかして、Hanneeshさんに対して、私の名前は「ガイ ジニアン」だったら、私の事、知っているとあまり言え ないでしょうね・・・。 |

This one died ages ago, back when the cash master said the OP would probably never return so i think i can excuse a slight drift. Judge ye not less ye be judged! Dutch Baka, you need to BE a bit baker- i think you mean LUUUUUUUV and not LOVEEEEEEEEE. i mean that just dont make sense. And THAT is padanticity. |
