Help with a reading
Lately I've been attempting to start reading Japanese books to help with my kanji and overall reading comprehension, and it's been going alright. I'm starting out with Harry Potter(I have already read the English version a few times so it's much easier than a book I am unfamiliar with), and I'm doing fairly well.
However, I have a question about how to read something, and, despite looking around, I am unable to find the answer .The problem is 「ダーズリー民」. I already know the kanji and it's readings, and from the usage I am fairly confident that it means "Mr. Dursley." Yet I have never come across this kanji being used as a name suffix and I am unsure of the correct reading. My first instinct was to read this as "daazurii min," but for some reason this just doesn't seem right to me. Is this wrong? Should it use the kun reading and be "daazurii tami," or perhaps a name reading(hopefully not because I haven't memorized very many of those ).Thank you very much for your help! |

Yeah, I think you probably mistook 氏 for 民.
「ダーズリー氏(し)」 = "Mr. Dursley".

That would make a lot more sense, and yes it is. Confound it, they all look alike, it's not my fault!!!
Thank you! |
