Lt Ehren Watada
I would like to know if any of you Japanese nationals are aware of Lt. Ehren Watada? I would like to know the Japanese perspective of Lt. Ehren Watada?
Do you regard him as a hero, who stood up against an illegal war on Iraq? Or are you folks oblivious to what goes on outside of Japan? |

Actually it became a Japanese issue tonight (if not earlier) when Ehren's story made it on a popular current events show. The show seemed to note disagreement some Americans have with the war and Ehren was painted as the shining example. His ancestry didn't seem incidental to the story as they framed the corner of the screen with the fact. My opinion in a 2DKshell: Japanese people in Japan like to showcase famous international Japanese so yes it IS an issue in Japan.

We already had a thread on this. And just because it was on a Japanese television show doesn't make it a Japanese issue. Even more, unless he was stationed in Japan at the time, it has nothing to do with "U.S. Forces in Japan" and should at the very least be moved to a more appropriate subfora.

I take offense at the insinuation here that we living here in Japan are unaware of what is going on around the world. |

He should do the Alberto Fujimori trip by seeking exile in Japan. He wouldnt want to be working in Okinawa as a translator, now wouldnt he? He would also not have to see any combat, as translators are hard to train. (In his case, he is already fluent, and thus does not required training). 日系米国軍人として、沖縄を占領統治すると、先祖を裏切ることであろう。
