Japanese exported shinkansen finally running in Taiwan!

Sorry, I don't have an English article off hand, but this has been on my mind for a while now.

The first export of Japanese bullet train technology has been basically completed, as the Taiwan Shinkansen has officially opened! There are some concerns about safety, especially seeing as the tracks and supporting systems where originally designed for the European version of bullet trains, and there is a shortage of train engineers, but I am very excited about it finally opening! I can't wait to ride it next time I visit!

　１２両編成（定員約９８０人）の一番列車は５日午前 ７時（日本時間同８時）、台北郊外の板橋駅を出発した 。白とオレンジのツートンカラーに黒い１本線が走る車両は「のぞみ」７００系を改良し た７００Ｔ型。だが運転士の大半はフランスの高速鉄道ＴＧＶを運転していたフランス人だ。台湾人運転士の養成が開業時点では間に合わず、事業主体の台湾高 速鉄道（台湾高鉄）が昨年５月に急きょ雇用した。一番 列車の運転台に立ったパトリック・プルナーさんもフランスから。「少し戸惑ったけど、いまはすっ かり慣れました。ＴＧＶより新幹線の運転席の方がずっと静かです」と語った。

　台湾で９０年代初めから計画された高速鉄道計画は、 当初はフランス、ドイツの欧州連合が受注するとみられ ていた。９９年に大地震に遭った台湾側が「地震にも強 い日本の新幹線」を採用。逆転受注での初輸出となったが、通信や信号、ポイントなど 随所に欧州式のシステムが残る。

　このため台湾メディアは「日欧混合システム」の安全 性に疑問を投げかける。開業が３回延期されたこともあ って、大手テレビ局ＴＶＢＳの調査によれば７４％が「 安全運転が心配」と答えている。

　台湾高鉄はこうした不安や疑念をはらすためにも、５ 日から１９日までは通常の半額料金でサービスする。１日に８８往復の運行を目標としているが、 運転士不足もあって開業当初は１９往復。およそ１時間に１ 本の発車となる。最終駅の台北駅からの発着は早くて２ 月半ばの旧正月からになる見込み。

YEAH! my mom recently went on it; it supposedly only takes abt 3 hrs to get from taipei to kaohsiung, not exactly sure how they do it, but it's really cool.
only one bad thing about it- it goes so fast that there are bloodstains found on the outside...................................... don't worry, they're not human bloodstains, just innocent birds who happened to pass the train
