Eric Shinseki

As many of you are aware of Eric Shinseki, who was the 34th Chief of Staff of the US Army, was the first Japanese American to take that highest post.

How well known is Gen. Shinseki in Japan? Does anyone know how much command of the Japanese language he has? Has he ever been to Japan as a third generation?
