European Union
Bureaucracy which is the way Europe and Japan is heading will give even more power to the administration. Europe is changing due to all these laws which are passed about by burrecrats and not politicians. If they change the various currencies into Euros what this does is not to spread wealth more equally across Europe but to spread wealth to the big coorporates, banks and state institutions. It makes it easier to cross borders within Europe because you don't need to exchange however though the borders are gone the structure of power and balance isnt.

Why? It is because there will be an even greater resentment and hostility toward the two after the fact (this has happened to other countries who have taken similar actions). You need one general language in order for a country to survive. That does not mean that you can't have other cultures or languages in a country, but you need one general language that everybody can communicate by.

Yes, but those instances are done in mutual respect for each other and where hostilities are low. In societies where the tensions are hostile, the negativity continues even after the break up.

i think the europian union is doing ok.
plus it set an example for other nations to follow. now we can witness an african union forming and an arabian gulf country union..as well as word about an asian union.... the world was once few ruling nations, then broke down to many nations and with small broders.. now the world seems heading to bigger unions to have more power as whole. |

Thank you scorpion da black,
I agree with and also there is less chance that we start another war inside Europe. This Continent has seen so many wars in the past, but now we can learn from each other. In the future we might have one language too. European English? But I hope that French and German will never disappear. |

Just keep an eye on the US$ as it will fall throughout 2008 until it collapses. Millions are on the verge of losing their homes and probably will; the boarders are wide open (and for a reason); millions of jobs have been transported overseas (and for a reason). It's the old Hegelian Dialect: When things get so bad ( or there is another "terrorist" strike) the American public will be begging the government for a solution (as is planned) and they will provide it (as is planned) with the solution (already planned) that we need a North American Union and a new currency, the Amero. It will not happen until the public begs for it, and beg for it they will. Just watch the next three years. Plans and construction are already underway. Just google NASCO Corridor and read on. Hey Doc, Google this. Better than that, click on the link and tell me it's not going to happen by 2010. There are thousands of links. Be sure to read the the first link at the top of the page by none other than the Council on Foreign Relations titled "Building A North American Community". In case it is not listed just click on the link. It worked in Europe (as was planned) and the majority of the public there accepts it in the name of "Free Trade" (as "they" knew they would) as a "simple solution". People are so gullible, but "they" already know that.

I think EU sucks. I am glad Norway is out of it. Norway has been colonised for 700 years. Thats twice as long as USA. First from Denmark then Sweden. Then the Nazis. We are not going to anyones super state. Norways population was declining from 1200 to 1960. The history started to get better once we got the independence and found natural resources. I would rather see Norway in OPEC than EU. ID rather have local politicians distributing oil than Eurocrats in Brussels. ID wouldn't mind unifying with Sweden though. Wed have a better football team.

Hello
i would like to say that EU is bad for my country Bulgaria.Because foreign companys come in my poor country and having tons of money to spare they enforce extremely low prices in their shops for a period of time until they ruin all the other businesses and become monopolists. Others just come here and produce everything they can and they export it to EU but ofc they pay us bulgarian sallarys not the money you would expect to get with such export. In two words EU just needs us for white slaves ![]() Sad but extremely true. Please telleport me out of here

Doc you seem to be so poorly knowledged!
the USA is already a union.....a union of 51 states.... the union in south america is already made since 200 years, so talking about sovereignty is funny really. |

Destroy trade barriers. 2.) Destroy corruption. Unfortunately, you can't stop the second one so people aren't so keen on free trade as you might think. Free trade helps to a certain extend, but not too much. There will be an eventual noose tied around the conglomerates who eat that crap up. There has to be because nobody else is willing to afford or buy their crap.

Yes, you are quite right my friend. A NAU would cause more harm than good in many instances, especially among relations between the three NA countries. |

Doc san
the only differences are: one: the governers have less authority than the central goverment...while in the EU the presidents /(PM) of every country still rules the country and the EU goverment has less authority. two: the US has one language unlike the EU. but these are minor from my point of view and can be fixed. |

Belgians can't agree on anything. So they should break up. Break up to save the friendship. I am sure if Norway Sweden was one country still we would be having wars and protest marches and what not. Now that both countries are independent they are best friends like brothers. |

I am skeptical to the word Union. Kalmar Union enslaved Norway the Union with Sweden enslaved Norway the European Union is all about this rich elite in central Europe trying to enslave and exploit others to their advantage. And they pack it all with how EU is idealistic when in reality it is just this cynical capitalistic institution.
Screw EU. It all boils down to spreading the wealth but they want to do it on their terms and Norway on theirs. |

Well, don't get me wrong, Hungary is simply a market for the EU... but im glad we did enter, in all honesty, im a selfish bastard, and I say sink or swim, now life might become a bit rougher, but nonetheless, the opportunity for individual success is higher as well.

I don't know anything about Hungary but Hungary seems like a nice country. There is no political divide between west and east Europe but there still is a divide financially. I am not sure if EU will help improve Hungarian economy or create bigger gaps between rich and poor people in Hungary.

The problem Hungary faces can't be determined so simply, there are no HORRIBLE problems anywhere, but small ones, they're all the place. Although I do find the current Hungarian government incompetent, the vandalism a few months ago came out of the blue. They were smashing cars and breaking into shops.
Although Im lucky that im living in the most rural county, even though its my county's biggest town, the folks only went to the centre, discussed the government a bit, got drunk and went home safely. |

The only thing I know about Hungary is that a friend of a friend of mine was studying in a university in Budapest. And he was talking about the amazing architecture and the beautiful cities. Hungary is in the heart of Europe and has a rich culture.Where as Norway is on the edge of Europe and has been a very poor country up until very recent not much culture.
Vandalism is pretty common I think in most European countries. |

You're saying Norway has a poor culture, but imo, thats mainly because you spent loads of time there, If you were born in Hungary you'd probably say the same. People get tired of the same things after a while.
Hungary might be in Central-Europe, but to counterbalance that, Hungary always a nerving diplomatic relationship with the surrounding countries, and there are plenty of those. Also, the size of the towns/cities/villages is very, very polar. Its sociogeographyically proven that there are a few cities/towns with good industry and such here, but at the same time some of the villages are on a third world level. And there isn't one of those. Basically, in my county, there are small villages, a load of them, their common trait is that their name ends with "-bokor", meaning bush. Now these small villages are very, very saddening and miserable. Bringing water from wells, no street numbers or names, no heating, no hospitals. |

I don't think it's that easy. Some political parties in Belgium - and ofcourse only in Flanders (the dutch-speaking part and the richer part) - want to break up Belgium and have an independant Flanders which would make us probably the whealthiest country in Europe. Other parties in Flanders don't even want to think about this and are shure Belgium will keep on existing forever. In fact, since 1830 both dutch and french speaking people have been living peacefully in Belgium. Not only political parties have different opinions, even citizens have. Not all Flemish people want to have an independant Flanders (I do feel that the amount of people in favor of this is rising because of the recent troubles). Some people don't feel Flemish at all. I personally have always felt Belgian and it would be very odd for me to tell people in foreign countries to say I'm Flemish at some point. To tell the truth, I even feel the European Union want Belgium to keep on existing after all. Not all people know this but if Belgium eventually breaks up, there would be 3 new countries: Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels (Brussels is a region just like Flanders and Wallonia. They have both dutch and french as official language). These 3 new countries will have to 'subscribe' themself into the European Union again which is always time-consuming. I think the European Union feels like this is a waste of time after all. |
