China..
I think China has and still is going through certain phases with quality control but I believe ultimately it will pull inline with western countries over time.
I'm sure it realizes that certain things have affected it so far.. I noted the government took immediate reaction in regards to slave labour at a merchandise factory that was an officially licenced Olympic manufacturer. I'm sure China now does actually realize that it has to have strict laws on copyright and quality control, although it may take time for it to full evntuate successfully due to the size of the country and population. I remember in the late 80's early 90's, Thailand was a totally different place to what it is today. In those days it was a third world country and charities were a many.. Things do change... |

So far, I could not find any photos in English media reporting other packages except the gyoza dumpling product. |

Poisoned dumplings!
Some of you may be aware that recently, dumplings imported from China were found to have over 400%(!) of the levels the Japanese government has deemed to be safe for consumption of a certain insecticide. JT has recalled all of its frozen foods due to this.
I am starting to get concerned. This is not the first time food from Chinese factories has been an issue. I do not think that it is some kind of conspiracy, but a pattern of behaviour has been established, and I think it's quite disturbing. Do you know anyone who has been affected by the latest food scandal involving Chinese products? Are you changing your buying habits because of it?

I don't mean to be a stickler but...I already started a thread like this over in the "Bilateral Relations with China" board.

My Mother in law, doesn't trust Chinese products at all, she sticks with Japanese products. She only goes shopping at Coop, because she trust them, lol.

Sorry about that! I didn't realize you already had started this thread!
![]() This topic was on my mind yesterday at the grocery store, and I bought the more expensive (almost twice the price!) dried shiitake mushrooms grown in Japan over the Chinese ones. Avoiding Chinese grown food will not be easy.... |

I think the hole found in the dumpling packet is very suspicious- my moneys on the dumplings being deliberately contaminated, its true China has a really bad health and safety record, there were loads of types of products withdrawn from sale last year because of contamination, and tens of thousands of products banned simply because they were unsafe etc. But China has many enemies and i think its just as likely that someone deliberately contaminated the products with something nasty, as the scenario of a breach in health and safety regulations occurring etc.

Thus it could as well be the Japanese themselves, couldn't it?. . .
Be it to focus on other than their own contaminations at the moment, that they have tried to keep secret for too long. I would not trust their food either after all now. |

To distract from their own problem, for example. . .would also fit the picture. But I am not saying, that, I am just juggling the reasons, and they have the same weigth at present.

I hope not. . .but my trust in this is down in the cellar.
Yet I think, it was some chinese bad factory conditions, according to my own experiences over there. |

It may be thought.
But, 1.The poison poisoning occurred in all parts of Japan. 2.It is difficult to obtain this poison poisoning (an insecticide), Because it is not used in Japan. If in Japan poison was put It is a warehouse of import. A suspect is found immediately. If a criminal is a Japanese case, |

Oh, we had some food poisonings in Germany, of similar kinds, in german food even, widely distributed, and some sources were found, some not.
Even usual terrorists can do, any time, wherever they wish to, or just a mad individual. We get regular quick warnings, but never panic. |

I think China will do anything for money. I can't blame the workers though, as I am sure the ones at the lowest levels don't know what's going on.
Back in the early 90's I went to Walgreens and was about to purchase "cheaply" priced aspirin. The pharmacist there at that time, took me aside and told me not to purchase that aspirin as it was made in China. She said they just didn't have the standards that we did. From that day I have never purchased any medicine, toothpaste or the like that was made in China. My pharmacist was ahead or her time. I wonder what she is thinking now? I am having a problem though, finding menma that isn't made in China. Does anyone know of a brand that isn't. All I can find are Chinese brand.

In Japan, the investigation began as attempted murder incident.
poison seems to have exceeded the fatal dose. |

And as for deliberately poisonings, we had several ones too, for example on baby food even, or jam and the like, from within our own country! Anyhow, this dumpling case is in fact a severe case between China and Japan, I wish you luck over there! |
