Thumbs down Japanese whalers resume hunt in Southern Ocean

After a healthy lul, Greenpeace and the Steve Irwin had to depart due to fuel shortages.

Good chance for the whalers to start the hunt, and so they did!

Steve Irwin will return after a re-fuel, hoepfully next year they will have two ships to relay and stop the whaling.

When, o when will this stop!

I thought that the Australian Oceanic Viking would still be following the Japanese ships? At least Greenpeace and the Sea Shepherd have had an impact this year, and hopefully more of an impact next year.

Chi - You are funny

Sara, the Viking ran out of fuel.

They survive simply from donations, with famous people being the main contributors..

They are going to try to purchase another ship for next seasons hunt, that way, one can take over when the other runs low on fuel.

Thanks, KR, it was partly meant to be funny, but only partly, hehe.
I usually never curse, but in this case, I could not help. . .

(so far I am not deleted for this )

A certain bomb did explode, as for the Taiji-case, just for a start, I hope.
That may well cause some disturbing dreams. . .I hope

Let's hope as it doesn't seem to get half a mention compared to the whaling issues..

Any country with respect for themselves would not call their own ship Viking and yet be against Whaling.

The same people criticisng Japan eats pork, chicken, kangaroos and wear cow skin leather boots.

That picture is perfectly normal. Japan is utilizing a renweable natural resources in a sustainable manner. Japan is right. Greenpeace does misliead people. Greenpeace has never been able to stop Japans hunt despite them in rubber boats. The only reason why Greenpeace go and chase the Japanese whaling vessel is marketing. They take pictures of Greenpeace activists together with Japanese whaling ship to make it look like they are stopping Japan when in reality they are not. But they do manipulate the ignorant masses and Greenpeace do make alot of money just to take pictures of themselves.

Greenpeace goes down there to make money! Not to stop Japanese whaling. The anti whaling campaign has nothing to do with environment. Its all about money for Greenpeace. This anti whaling campaign is too lucrative to give up.

What's in a name, anyway, didn't they change the name to Steve Irwin?

That is a fitting tribute for anyone who REALLY cares about the environment.

I don't really have an opinion about Whaling itself... but I am wondering why this needs to be a new thread instead of a post in one of the 98 whaling threads....

I have merged these two threads. I hope that no new threads will be opened on this subject, as I can't see any great variety in the theme itself, other than what we do have here.

In all consideration, I cannot agree that there is any matter of racism involved, and I would argue that terrorism doesn't quite fit either. Also kangaroos and that issue has really very little connected relationship, it appears. Let's all not get too worked up over it please...not here, at least.

It was not only in Australian papers, but also correctly mentioned in Japan Today, a Japanese paper.
http://www.japantoday.com/jp/news/427356
"Australian gov't says whaling photos will strengthen legal case in int'l courts".

If I may say so: I feel that we are all responsable for the welfare of animals, many of them are dying and so are many plants.

Let's vote for a International Animal/Plant Court, they deserve some good laws to protect them in this crazy world!

That's a good idea, Elizabeth! I also like the idea from the news article Kyoto Returnee posted:

"We will be pushing as an alternative government for a global whale sanctuary.

"Let's have the fight, let's have the battle, let's work to create a global whale sanctuary to protect these creatures for all the world for all time."

We had the same foto and shortened article, but same basic point of view over here in Germany. It should not stay unrecognised by many though!

Most definitely, but I think the Japanese will ignore it and shoot right back in.

Japan is a very difficult country at the best of times and never seem to join or even respect the democratic international world on treaties and laws.

OMG. Australia is a very inscrutabale country and never face up international treaty and agreement. Now they say .... Photos. What's wrong with those whaling photos?

Despite Australian lies, Japanese are COOL and laughing.

Laughing at what?

If you mean the photos of the baby whale and her mum being dragged up, harpooned and dead meat, well, something must be wrong.

I don't believe the Japanese people are laughing as they are just not like that..

You may be laughing though..

Is that what you meant?
