Greeting cards and cards in general

Do the japanese buy many cards ?
What kind of things do they prefer on their covers ?
Is the "Industry" made up of a couple of publisher/distributer companys or is it like the UK where it's made up of lot's of little publishers who sell there work independently to shops or struggle to get acepted by a chain of stores ?

If anyone can answer these questions I would be intrested in hearing from you.
