US Forces Should Remain in Japan

In my opinion US forces should remain for the reason they were placed there.

The war is over but in my opinion Japan still does not respect Australian waters.

Sorry if it hurts your feelings, but that is the way I feel because Japanese fish the Australian waters for whales as they please with no regard for Australia.

The whales regularly can be seen from across Australia's Coast and bring a lot of tourist to Australia. They are used to approaching ships and when Japanese kill them, other whales remember and stay away.

If they were Indonesian fishing boats, they would be placed under detention, however Australia can't do much against the Japanese.

For that reason, I would like to see the military presence in Japan do something to keep the Japanese out of Australian waters where they do not belong.

I highly doubt that the US military would do anything to stop Japanese whaling. It's not their purpose. So it seems a silly excuse to me.

This is not about stopping whaling. It's about showing a bit of respect for the territory of other Countries.

The reasons you are giving for your opinion that the US forces should stay in Japan seems to be extremely off base. Let's see, the US forces have been here for sometime now, they are here now, and yet the Japanese companies that do whaling, for whatever reason, in so forth and so on, are doing their whaling, right? So how can the presence of the US forces have anything to do with it?

I very strongly suspect that you have an agenda which may be fine in the forum on Whaling, but this particular sub-forum is to discuss things here in Japan that have to do with, are connected with, or are affected by the presence of the US forces here.

Do you have any data or studies to back up your idea?

Then why did you bring up whaling?

The military of the USA doesn't control Japanese whaling or fishing, or for that matter where they do those things. I think it's up to Australia to protect their own boundaries and they certainly shouldn't expect the USA to do it for them.

Ok, let me be more specific, the US military was placed in Japan in order to prevent renewed Japanese militarism.

Norwegians whale also, but they do it in their waters. Japan is obviously throwing it's weight around and will probably soon decide to no longer recognise Australia's claimed waters as belonging to Australia. That would be the next step to creating conflict just as we see in the middle east.

So if you can see Japan doing this to Australia and don't feel worried, then that's fine, however as an Australian it does not make me feel comfortable.

I feel that Australia should be able to conserve the wildlife within it's waters and have that be respected by other countries.

Japan can whale, but I want them to do it in their waters and respect Australia, and I would prefer their military remain small as a result of not respecting Australian waters.

Then let's put issues about what might, or might not be Australian waters aside, and focus on the reason US forces were in Japan in the first place, why they stayed, and why they are still here now.

I doubt that anyone would doubt that the reason the forces are here, is because of WWII. Japan surrendered to the US, and so occupation and re-governmenting begain. That was the start of the forces being here in the first place, right?

Is this thread about the U.S. military presence in Japan or about whaling?

If you only wish to discuss whaling, I suggest you do it in the whaling section and not open unrelated threads as a pretext to talk about whaling in other areas.
