Post Imperial Couple in Vienna

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko yesterday arrived in Vienna on their first official visit to Austria, the third leg of their two-week, four-nation European tour.

The Imperial couple will mainly indulge in an extensive "Sound of Music"-style program, visiting Vienna's most famous sightseeing locations such as Hofburg, Belvedere and Schoenbrunn as well as musical events (Vienna Boys Choir etc.). Thousands of Viennese as well as Japanese tourists and ex-pats greeted the tenno during his visit of Schoenbrunn castle.

It's a pity that Nahoko and I were too busy to catch a glimpse of the imperial visit.

I was asked if there are any photos of the Imperial couple's visit to Vienna. I've found a few at the web site of the Japanese Embassy in Vienna

Funny thing is I've served in the unit that can be seen in the background.

The Austrian president (at the tenno's right) isn't any taller than 6ft. (~180cms), I estimate the tenno to be around 5ft. tall.
