Help? Scanner? AH!

This isn't necessarily a Japanese product but I saw this as the best place to post this....

I have a Canon D1250 U2F scanner....I hooked it up and downloaded the most recent XP drivers...it works with my PC, but doesn't register in my programs...it says TWAIN source files are missing or the scanner isn't hokked up..

Does anyone have any ideas or things I might be able to try? Is anyone else having this problem with their scanner?
