The best way to say "Please don't call me X, but Y"

As topic says, I'm kind of touchy with my real name given to me by m parents. Call it some form of disgust I have, but I have good reasons for it, especially when my father told me the real reasons behind my name.

The phrase again is : "Please do not call me X, I would prefer you call me Y."

Or maybe for the 2nd part: "Y would be fine."

The Y would obviously be Kintaro :P, the X is none of your business, and I don't feel like spreading it.

Maybe something simpler will be a little easier to remember : How about "Instead of X, I want you to call me Y." -- X dewanaku, Y to yonde hoshiin desu. (or, please call me -- Y to yonde kudasai ; I prefer Y -- Y no hou ga ii desu.)

Get it changed legally (if you're old enough to do so).

I know I wouldn't put up with "Junior" or "NameB the II" for any longer than I had to.

I am legally old enough, however, the life situation I am in prevents me from doing so, I need certain documents. And to get them takes time... and where I live, I can't get Xpresspost stuff.

An interesting spin from my initial request: here's if I want to change name....

http://www.educaloi.qc.ca/TLR_Law/F0...dex.php3?no=54

Cost is 125$ + 65$ for two notices in the official Quebec Gazette and whatever 2 cost me in a local newspaper.

5 main reasons to change my name, on top of the parental reason, there is one more which covers 4 out of 5 of those points.

My name is Grant. There, it's out. Named after a drunk U.S. president who "failed" to invade Canada (my brother is named after the general who gave him a whooping)... and it resembles closely "Graine", Quebec slang for penis, but really bad slang. --- Those are my reasons. Not because I'm a fanboy of various anime and stuff.

Which is one of the reasons I think that's a crummy thing to do to a kid. ^^v

I say - leave the country before deciding to settle down and raise kids or they'll be an Emile Gallant IX :-P

Or, you could come to the U.S. where the name 'Grant', while not common, is not unheard of, and has no real negative stigma attached to it.

I wonder if Frank Zappa's two kids, Moon Unit and Dweezel have ever considered changing their names.

Paul's right, it's one thing Canadians resent, being called American.

And we still have a positive image abroad. o_O I don't blame the American people though for the actions of its government.

(Off-topic bubble: bushflash.org has a video clarifying that statement, called The Idiot Son Of An ....... , funny, but this may be a bit too far off-topic, and moderators can delete this part if they see fit)

Not sure about now, but I read somewhere not surprisingly they hated these names growing up. I think Dweezil was actually a pet name Frank had for one of his wife's toes.
