Japanese inspired strawberries
This is part Japanese and part Canadian. Hull and slice 2 cups of strawberries. Put in a saucepan (on low-medium heat) and add a few drops of orange extract (or orange zest), 2 Tbl. mirin, and 1-3 tsp. sugar. Warm, and serve by themselves, with topping (whipped cream), on ice cream, or on shortcake. You may want to adjust the mirin and sugar depending on your taste--I like mine not so sweet.
