Looking for cheap airplane tickets... Gekki-yasu!

I'm trying to find the cheapest company for tickets back to America for summer vacation. However, all of the companies that I normally go through are just as expensive as the commercial airlines. Currently, prices are about $1,600! This is way too much!

Has anyone run across any super awesome deals for late July to late August from Nagoya International to Minnesota International?

Please, please, please, please, please!

I'll trade you my ticket to go back the U.S. for Japan citizenship!

OR you could just check somewhere like cheaptickets.com.

best deal is standby (imo/ime)
but that would be no good at that time of the year (imo/ime) -- all the kids are out of school -- school trips everywhere
i made the mistake once of trying to leave japan the day AFTER the last day of school -- july 21st or something like that
it was three days before i could get a flight, and then it was because of a higher-ranked supervisor than the one who had been running the show (badly)
traveling in the wee hours of the morning (4/5 am) is also another well-used strategy

Is it just me or is finding tickets online very expensive? I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or something. In Honolulu, I can get tickets for like $400 to $600 to Tokyo which I see from places and newpapers. But when I check online, they're in the range of $1100 to $1800! ?!?

I don't think it's the site. I've checked many sites and it's all in that same ballpark range of prices. I don't know if we're suppose to try other "rest points" as destinations and from there to Tokyo or something.

Thanks guys... I'm also wondering if specials might become available closer to summer vacation.

Here are the companies that I've gone through before that had good prices in the past years.

Kintetsu
H.I.S.
IACE

Does anyone know any other good ones?
