Fastest cheapest way to Japan

Hi just curious what do you think is the fastest and cheapest way to Japan (1-way). This would include travel to Japan and money to support yourself there for 3-4 months.

I Think We Took A Vote On This Before....

and decided the cheapest was was to climb into the
wheelwell of a jet headed that way, non-stop. Dress warm & bring plenty of oxygen!!
I think 2nd place went to crateing yourself up and shipping it UPS. Take plenty of food & water and a good chemical toilet!

Go at a time of year when airfare is cheap (March for example), stay in youth hostels, don't spend too much time in big cities, use local trains or get a rail pass before you go, and buy food in supermarkets when possible. Don't let the nay sayers dissuade you, it is possible to experience Japan cheaply, it just takes some discipline.

Here's is a great site for Japan youth hostels....

As for the flights, I found that you can find some quite affordable ones through Ebookers. That's where I got my tickets for next months trip to Japan.

It would be a lot cheaper to stay if you have some friends there. I'm staying a little over a week at a friends house.
