I was wondering what free software people out there are using to study kanji. I personally use JFC (http://www.physics.ucla.edu/~grosenth/f_main.html) and Kanji Gold (http://web.uvic.ca/kanji-gold/). I find both of these are great. I use JFC for writing practice (as you can set it to not show you the kanji, but to show the reading / meaning) and I use Kanji Gold for rapid recognition review. Kanji Gold also has a great compound learning feature.
Now over to you...

I'm pretty sure that there is a linux version out there.
Otherwise just download the sorcecode and compile one yourself. ;) |

I know this is an old thread, but does anybody have any other suggestions? I'm esp looking for good web-based kanji sites.

kanji-a-day(.com) is one that I used to use.
Also, for people that have either the iPod touch or iPhone, there is an app called "Japanese" and I don't know what the icon looks on the app store, but it's either 日本語 or 本. It has 12736 kanji and a total of 154957 of entries and has readings, example sentences (with furigana), popular compounds, and many different listings to narrow down what you're looking at (verbs, interjections, particles, counters, etc.) and by subject. It does cost a bit of money, but it's completely worth it. |
