If you already live and study in Japan you shouldn't go through your embassy, but through university recommendation (Japanese university). This is most likely what your professor is doing.

Thanks Scalemx for your quick reply
Actually I am not now at Japan but I were there for a training for a month last September in this period I met the Japanese Prof. and make two interviews with him and discuss my work and scholarship
But I live in Egypt now.
    What is the situation now?

Mmm I'm not sure myself here. It might still be that you are going through university recommendation and that the Japanese university/your professor will just submit the documents to MEXT. Of course the Uni being in Japan there is no need to send it to an embassy first. Sending it to the ministry of education directly would be logical.
However, I would imagine that you have to undergo interviews and such and being in Egypt, this will probably have to happen at the Japanese embassy.

Can't you just contact your professor and ask him/her? If you are not the first student that your professor is helping in trying to get a scholarship this way, just asking for the information should work best.

I think we are in the same situation.

I am accepted to a graduate program but apparently not to the scholarship I originally applied for. Instead the university requested me to submit required documents for MEXT.

I think we have a good chance of getting the scholarship given that we are already being recommended by a university. It means our papers including our academic qualifications have gone through review and screening at the university level.

I have high hopes because my university boasted of 100% acceptance of all their applicants recommended to the MEXT scholarship in the last 25 years. I just hope I'm not going to be the first reject hahahahaha

    Good luck to us.

I just got an email that my MEXT documents were already received by the university. If I am not mistaken, they will send the documents on my behalf to the Japanese government.

It is still more than 2 months before they can inform me of the result. By the way, I am for the October enrolment.

    Good luck to us!

Hi everyone. I think I am somehow similar to you guys... It is considered as University Recommendation, and what I knew is that you have to be selected by your Japanese university (which you have applied) and that university will recommend to MEXT. MEXT will make the final decision, you still have chance to be rejected by MEXT but relatively low as your university is supporting your application.

There should be specific quota for university recommendation for every university which means if there are 50 candidates who are applying scholarship through their host professors though only 10 places for them. So you and your professor have to compete with other candidates and their host professors as usual, they might comparing your academic result, your study plan and etc with other candidates. I am in this situation now, waiting for the outcome of selection.

But in your case, your professor said he will submit your documents to MEXT or admin office?

I have some questions too, let me PM you.

Hi, I have been waiting for your reply since a long time. Have you got my PM and email?

I've have been informed in the early of this month that I have selected as one of the candidates for MEXT scholarship through university recommendation. My prof said that university has sent my documents and application form to MEXT for "examined"... what does it really mean? Does he mean they will check on my documents and make sure all are real and given true information? For me, it sounds they are doing checking but not selection (I hope I am right). He also added "It is still competitive"... He also said that the final result will be at the end of June or the beginning of July, so I think yours might be around the same time or it could be varied depending on your university.

Well, I am optimistic on this but just getting impatient as time goes by. Have you get the final result from MEXT?

In your first post, you mentioned your professor informed you of the the required documents for MEXT. If you submitted the documents to your professor and your professor sent the documents to MEXT, you have to wait until June for the result. At least that is what my university told me.

I think what your professor is trying to say is that they sent your documents to MEXT for evaluation. I think it is more on assessing the merits of your application especially the research proposal.

If you have been recommended by the university to MEXT, you surely are already accepted in the university.

But I am pretty sure our respective university does not select the MEXT Scholars. They just recommend but not select.

So like many of us here, we are accepted by the university but not yet accepted to MEXt Scholarship.

Hi there. Yes, I have been recommended by the university to MEXT.
If MEXT is evaluating my proposal, then it should be good to me (honestly, the proposal had done with a lot of helps from my jp prof).
Btw, are you saying that we can get into the university even we are not accepted to MEXT scholarship? Which means self-funded.

Your lucky because your professor helped you in your proposal.

In my case, I applied to the graduate program, they accepted me then referred me to MEXT. Although, I already indicated a number of professors I prefer, no one has yet to contact me. The university said they will do so after I am accepted maybe in MEXT. So I wrote my proposal all by myself.

And yes, you can study even without MEXT. But mke, I cannot financially support studying in Japan so I need scholarship.

Actually I don't have well financial support but I hope to do part time if I couldn't get scholarship in the end.

How can we check if our university really apply for us in MEXT,or not?
    Or just trust their word?
Is there a website to be sure?
