MEXT Scholarship through University Recommendation

A week ago I received a positive answer from 窶ケテ」窶佚・ツ。😎
So no negative answers till now, that's pretty good!
Seen you in October 🙂.

I received an email from Kyudai stating that the Ministry have confirmed my scholarship!!

So I will look forward to meeting you in October!!

Hi, I am going there also. which campus you are going?
I'm doing a masters degree oin engineering. From what I can gather, my coursework will take place at the Hongo campus and my research will take place at the Komaba campus. I would assume that the latter will take up more of my time.
How about yourself?

Hi... I have a question... If I apply for Uni recommendation, I can't do it for Embassy recommendation, right?

you can try U2U for next year. it will be started this year around August-September for October 2012 intake,
just check regularly TiTech, Kyodai, Tohoku univ., Todai, or any other university website.
but then, if you already got the sensei, and the sensei promises to recommend you to MEXT, you cant apply for G2G in April 2012, tht s what I mean.

yup, i got professor from todai. but im afraid that so many people will apply for todai that competition will be too hard. i cant take one more fail. when i can get uni recomm results if i apply this fall??

i have read on jref that for uni recomm apply about 100 people (on university) and get scholarship just about five. it that true???

if you apply this fall...then you ll get the result early July next year, about the same time when the result of G2G interview will be out. Tht s why im telling you, they ll find out if you try both.

I dont know about how many applicants out there for U2U,
but I think I have better chance in U2U compare to crowded G2G. You can see...for example, all people in this forum who applied for TiTech IGP-A or research student are accepted.

this year, in my country were 30 applicants and they gave 4 scholarships. im going to phd. here is not so crowded. but, i odnt know why i didnt got it. i have good grades, have professor form best university who helped me with research plan. i dont know why and they dont want to tell me. if i fail on u2u i have to wait for another year and im soooo inpatient!!!

It's forbidden to apply to MEXT from two places. You'll be failed immediately.
It applies also to the case if you are recommended by two universities at the same time. I think they want to make sure everyone gets a fair share of chance :)

Nice.
I am doing my PhD in Physics in Komaba. I wish I can get into the international dorm in Komaba. Let's meet up there!

f***... i failed interview and i want to try some other way, or even other scholarship. any ideas??
I know that we can apply JSPS DC1 scholarship (PhD)
www_jsps_go_jp (change the underline to dot)
and Monbusho scholarship AT THE SAME TIME without disqualifying. I have emailed JSPS to confirm this.
You may ask your potential supervisor about JSPS since there is no english page for scholarship.

Right. you're allowed to apply to multiple scholarships at the same time. I know (personally) people who were awarded both JSPS AND MEXT. But they were in Japan at the time and were MEXT recipient. JSPS is highly competitive, cause you compete directly with applicants from all around Japan.

For Dorms, do you guys know which one is better (Tokyo Tech)?
Nagatsuta (~43,000 per month) or Aobadai (~50,000 per month)?

don't know, but I like Aobadai house because I can have my own bathroom and kitchen hehe. Since aobadai house is only for men students,I think I'll choose nagasutsa house :):)

Which is the nearest hostel from suzukakedai campus..seems like it's only nagatsuta house..the fees also seems to be the cheaper ones @ around 43000 yen..some of the rent looks quite affordable at panet-labo.jp/english.top.html (they specialise in apartments for titech pple)

Hi all!

Hi Guys,
It's my first post here, I stumbled on this thread whilst doing my research for the MEXT scholarship by University Recommendation. It's great to hear that so many of you have been successful!
I am trying to get my application together for the 2012 intake and I have to say it's a pretty daunting thing. It seems the more I read about it, the harder it is to get this scholarship.
I have made a few enquiries, I am a mechanical engineering student looking to go into a masters program. I have emailed a few professors at University of Tokyo, two have got back to me, one saying he will pass my email onto the head professor in their laboratory to which I have heard no reply (about 1 week so far). A professor from another lab replied also and told me that it is very competitive and only one person will be nominated for MEXT from his lab and I have to submit my transcript, CV and research proposal to him. It kinda depressed me a little as it seems pretty hard to get approval from supervisors, but I guess U of T is probably one of the hardest to get into?
I have also enquired at Hokkaido, they said I don't need to contact a supervisor, anyone have any experience with Hokkaido?
Finally I guess I'm just wondering if I have much of a hope of getting the scholarship. How important is GPA? I will definitely be in at least the 3.4-3.6 range out of four by the time my course finishes in November, but not up in the 3.9 area, is this enough? As a bit more background, my research area is in vibrational analysis and so far my final year thesis scored 97 out of 100 for part one, and I hope to get a similar mark for the final pat so i guess that is high enough. Also I have completed an internship at one of the big car companies in Germany in Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation.
Any advise you could give would be great, I have a million questions at this point in time! haha. (I just previewed this post and it's kinda huge sorry! :sorry: )
Thanks!
AussieGuy

Hi AussieGuy,
2 years ago, 2 of my friends applied the e3 program, and only one of them was selected as a candidate of mext scholarship because she already had a supervisor.
For hokkaido univ, I think it would be better if you contact a supervisor before applying the e3 program. At least you'll have bigger chance to get accepted to the program and selected as a candidate of Mext Scholarship.

I think your GPA is good!don't worry, as long as you have approval from future supervisor (this is more important) you have bigger chance to get accepted. You had better focus on your thesis to get maximum score so that you'll get maximum GPA. Having a great GPA will increase your chance to get scholarship (I admit it).

Hope it helps :):)

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement. It is so hard to gauge what the requirements are to get in so it is stressing me out a bit.

Chikiball, thanks for the heads up, I will get in touch with some potential supervisors asap!

Thepie, thanks for the link, I had a bit of a look at titech but I might give it a bit more of a look.

Are you both receiving the scholarship?

Did you originally apply for more than one university or just one, I realise you can only accept one to be sent to MEXT for consideration, but did you put the initial application in for more than one university?

Thanks!
A
