Hi All,
I have been given a page to read out of a book called
It starts with a statement, then a conversation takes place.
Is it adults or children I can seem to work out the characters? I'm totally confused. If you don't mind I would like to go through this line by line to see where I am getting confused. Starting at the first statement.

The statement is.
: I think this just states that... icchan is my sons favourite baby sitter.

The first line of conversation.
chibichan I want to know, why do you want to be more older than icchichan?
or is it saying
I want to know why above all else chibachan wants to be older than icchan?

You completely skipped the どうしてなれないの? part.

Hint: potential form.

The narrator is the parent (perhaps father). He is talking with his son. The kid calls himself Makes sense?

so is the narrator the parent the only one actually speaking?

chibichan, more then anything else you wish you to be older than icchichan, why can't you?

when you were born your ages were already separated so it can't be helped.
well then, when chibichan turns 20, icchan will be 47, I want to her to become my wife.
you don't mind, but i don't think icchan will, hey what do you like about icchan?
let me see

chibi inside the car started to give serious consideration.

I didn't say that's monologue. I said "He is talking with the kid."

chibichan, more then anything else you wish you to be older than icchichan, why can't you?
The subject is wrong. I gave you a hint "The kid calls himself チビちゃん."

when you were born your ages were already separated so it can't be helped.
You misinterpreted the meaning of (the reading is とし, not さい)が離れてた.

well then, when chibichan turns 20, icchan will be 47, I want to her to become my wife.
You skipped

You skipped

The subject is wrong. I gave you a hint "The kid calls himself チビちゃん."
Are you saying the kid is talking in the third person?
I more then anything else wish to be older than icchichan, why can't I?

Hi Guys,
Thank you for your patience.
The statement is.
: I think this just states that... icchan is my sons favourite baby sitter.

The first line of conversation.
I (As in Chibisan), more then anything else wish I was older than icchichan, why can't I?

when you were born many years had past ,so it can't be helped.

well then, when chibichan turns 20, even if icchan is 47, I want her to become my wife.

That might be fine for you, but i don't think so for icchan, hey what do you like about icchan? (Not sure about the nuance of あんたがいいならいいけど)

let me see

Why is chibisan saying "chibisan" when he is talking?
thanks

Some young children refer themselves with their own name (as others call them so), it's a kind of baby-talk.

I really want to be older than Icchan. Why can't I be?
Thank you undrentidesan.
Also thank you all for your help.
It is a lot clearer now.
