Hi everyone, I am from brazil and I'll be applying for the 2013 MEXT too, I am very sad to say that I'll have only one chance (I am 20), so I need some good advices on what I will study.
Where i live, the education is very poor and we had a teachers strike for a half year, I really want to try but without help this will be impossible even to apply :(.
I'll apply for Information Engineering. If someone knows gook books to recommend please say.
Thanks in advance and good luck for all of us!

It's about 4 months left till start of application period. How many people from this forum are going to apply this year? Are you nervous guys?

I'm going to apply this year too. I'm going to apply for chemical engineering, how about you guys?

hey all! i'm new and just registered here. i'm going to apply MEXT 2013 for research student! does anybody here will apply as research student too?
i'm quite nervous to be honest. because i heard it's quiet hard to get the scholarship. oh no! i should be positive! >.<"
oh yeah, so lets work hard people!

Hi all. i am new here. i have some questions.
First I want to apply for MEXT 2013 Research Scholarship but will not get my undergraduate degree until august of 2012. So can i still apply for the scholarship, and if yes will it be sufficient to send a Letter of recommendation from my university in place of attested copy of last degree obtained.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know about research students, but I think you should ask the embassy

Hi. I'm applying for the undergraduate scholarship. Just got my national exam results and I met the requirements. Really hope that I can get this scholarship. Can I ask something? What is the level for the Japanese Language paper compared to Japanese Language Proficiency Test? Would it be like N3 or N4?

I'm applying for the undergrad. scholarship, hopefully for law.
Anyone know the level of mathematics they test for? Just algebra? or some calculus thrown in there?
Anyone else from Canada applying?
:)

I wish I knew what calculus is :D you can find previous years exams on studyjapan.go.jp
I don't think that mathematics for undergrad is extremely difficult, but it's a bit higher level than we learn at school.
By the way, have application process already started in Canada?

I found a syllabus on a previous years post for the mathematics exams [独立行政法人日本学生支援機構] hopefully that will help some people 👍
And no according to the consulate in Vancouver applications are usually available in early April, so wont be too long haha.
Have they started in Lithuania? And what do you plan on studying?
:)

I think there aren't matrices in undergrad exam, but other things seem to be. Thanks :)

No, application process here starts on April too. I'm going for economics/ international relations / politics. what will be your other two choices? and how many people from Canada get undergrad scholarship every year? I know that here every year 3 students get embassy recommendation but for last two years none of them got the scholarship

Haha no, matrices are not going to be on the undergrad, social sciences take Mathematics A so anything with Mathematics A/Mathematics II on the syllabus, and for people going into
the undergrad science take Mathematics B; so everything on the syllabus except Mathematics C (16/17).
I'm actually not too sure, did you find out by calling the embassy?
for me it will be law/economics/business admin.
What universities in Japan are you interested in so far?
:)

I was in a lecture about mext scholarships and there was one embassy worker who said that they always recommend 3 ppl for undergrad programme, but they don't get scholarship because of bad results in math. That's why I'm working with math a lot now.

I'm interested in Todai and Tsukuba since they have good courses of economics, but universities for undergrads are chosen by mext, so I don't really worry about that yet. in which universities you would like to study?

Haven't looked into universities yet, if we get the scholarship, don't we get to pick which one we go to? Does anyone know what university there has a strong chemical engineering program?

if you're applying for undergraduate program then mext will choose university according to your results. though it is possible to choose uni yourself if you deadly want to study in particular university.
Idk about chemical engineering, maybe this will help QS World University Rankings - Topuniversities

Hi, I'm from Vietnam and I'm going to apply for MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship this year.
I've got N1 in JLPT so I'm going for direct placement, but can anyone tell me whether there's a list of universities which accept direct placement or not? Can I just fill in any 3 choices I want?

Im assuming that any university that participates in the undergrad mext program will take direct placement if your Japanese level is high enough, it would be best to contact the Japanese consulate closest to you to be sure; imo.

does anybody know if application process for undergrads has started in some countries?

Thank you. I found this list, and apparently the university I want to go to (Keio) does not offer direct placement.

In the previous post someone mentioned that you can still choose a university after completing the language program; how do you do that? Do they give you an application form or something so you can fill in the choices?

embassy here said that it will start on mid-April. and I think in Malaysia it's already finished. I don't understand why they can't make at the same time for all countries
