Hi there,
So now I have a little repertoire of foodstuffs I can use for cooking,
However I was in a Buddhist monastery recently, and I tried some different foods which I liked.
Please could you tell me what these labels are.
You will get your reward in heaven

You could be a little more creative with getting your answers. Some of these items have english words, some of these items clearly show what they are (unless that tofu is in fact a sponge), some of these items can simply be tasted to see what they are, and some items show a picture of how to use them.

  • Not sure. Typically a cookie or cracker comes like that.
  • red cucumber
  • chinese sauce
  • Looks like miso (is it a brown paste?) w/ Hokkaido bonito (fish)
  • Wakame (seaweed)
  • cucumber
  • mushrooms
  • chinese cooking sake (rice wine)
  • (smooth) tofu
  • sliced ginger

Third one down is yakiniku sauce, medium style.

More importantly, it's delicious!

Fry some sliced onions, peppers and daikon in a touch of oil and a splash of the sauce while marinating those thin slices of beef or pork you can buy here in a bowl of the sauce. When the veggies are done put the meat in for a few seconds on each side, just long enough to brown, and serve the whole thing over rice with a little dish of the sauce on the side for dipping.

It's exceptionally easy and tasty. Barely one step harder than bachelors spaghetti, and a great dish to be able to whip up in half an hour.
