Shiga University (滋賀大学 Shiga daigaku), or Shigadai (滋賀大 Shigadai) is a national university in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It has campuses at the cities of Ōtsu and Hikone. The predecessor of the current school, the Shiga College of Education, was founded in 1943, from the Shiga Normal School. Then in 1949 three colleges – Shiga College of Education, Shiga Teachers Training College, and Hikone College of Economics – were combined into one institution and it was chartered as a university. Shiga University has two faculties, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Economics. Each faculty has a graduate school.
