TOKYO It means something special for a Japanese to be born in Kyoto, and even more so if the Japanese happens to be an artist. Unlike Tokyo's vast sprawl and its transient populace, Kyoto and its people have always been exclusive and self-sufficient. Does such an environment nurture the artistic spirit?
