Hello! I run a vintage shop in California and frequently come across items with markings in Japanese. I recently bought a small Imari style vase that has writing on the bottom that confuses me, because it could actually be a signature in western characters. I'm trying to figure out if this is even Japanese. A photo is attached/ Are these Japanese characters? Is it a name? A word? Thanks in advance for your help. https://s19.postimg.org/79as8cln7/Full_Size_Render.jpg

    Hello,
Could be 二十五〇 (kanji characters for the numbers 2, 10, 5, 0). Except there is a horizontal line that should be across the top of the 五 character, that isn't apparent in this photograph.

So, I can't say with confidence what it is supposed to represent, but it looks like ordinary kanji numbers. Could be Japanese or Chinese.
