Anyone know a way to add a right-click translation option for a highlighted word (specifically I'm interested in Jap-Eng and Eng-Jap). I've Googled around for ages and played with Dictionary App but no luck so far. This is to help me learning Japanese. I can do it nicely on Android but nothing I found on Mac so far - Macbook Pro, Sierra, if it's relevant. I do already have Japanese input and Japanese dictionary set up.

    Thanks.

What do you use for android?

I use the rikaikun plugin in Chrome, and it works pretty well!

Mostly just the native program because I've selected Japanese (in addition to English) as an input language. This means if I start to write a Japanese word, for example on WhatsApp, the auto-suggest feature suggests correct hiragana 'spelling' and kanji character. Then I can just copy to my learning journal. Can also right click to get instant Google translation.

Love the Takoboto app too. Of all the online dictionaries and apps I've tried it can recognize my hazy attempts at Japanese spelling best, and also gives conjugations (forms) of verbs too, which I find a great feature.

I'll give the rikaikun plug-in a try. Thanks for the heads-up.

Thought I'd update this old post with new info (new for me, at least) - maybe I missed it when I first wrote this post, or maybe it's new.

Google Translate extension for Chrome on a Mac (not tested on Windows) just need to highlight text then:

    - translation just pops up (how easy is that?)
    - click the translate button that magically appears
    - highlight text and click the translate button permanently in the Chrome toolbar

Whichever of the above options happens depends how you set it up.

.... also get other options like 'translate page' and 'open in google translate'

    Hope this helps.

I have a Logitech/Logicool mouse that's very programmable on a mac. I think this, or some other multi-button/wheel mouse would make what you describe just a click away.
