Japanese Throne

On the left, the Takamikura throne, and on the right, the Michodai, a curtained platform that will be used by Crown Princess Masako, both stored at the Kyoto Imperial Palace in Kyoto. Similar structures have been used since the Heian Period. The current structure was built for the coronation of Akihito's great-grandfather, Emperor Taisho, in 1915 and was also used for his grandfather Hirohito.
