I am not sure. I have been looking at them for a while now and I am just not sure. For fridge I think the longer is a electric fridge and the other is one that is not electric....maybe. I guess I lack common sense. :roflmao:
留守番 + 電話 = 留守番電話
It's a compound word.
留守(番) + 電(話) = 留守電
The initial elements of the compound word are contracted before compounding.
Before there were electric refrigerators, people had iceboxes. There are also refrigerators that operate by means other than electricity.
