What's new

Need a word or phrase translated?

Hi guys I would like to ask what does 初期化済ですが mean ?
I have translated and it said initialized, but what does that exactly mean, does it mean it can be turned on with the screen, or he has set it up ?
I want to buy a 3ds LL from japan and this is the description the seller has given
初期化済ですが、細かな動作確認は行っていませんので、ジャンク扱いとして出品させて
Would really appreciate if someone could confirm for me what it means

It has been reset to the original factory configuration (the same as if you had bought it new) but the seller has not tested the device to confirm it works properly. You should consider it "junk".

That is standard for many sellers who are selling used items. If it doesn't work, you can't expect a refund or an exchange. Caveat Emptor.

Hi

Can some please translate what is written on this painting on silk done in New Guinea in 1946?

Regards Tony from Australia

Thank you It would be amazing if we could get the name of the artist.

It might be amazing for you to get the name of the artist. After all, you have seen the painting.

All we have seen is one tiny little corner of it so we would have trouble understanding how amazing it would be.

I think the first kanji in the name may be 松. The rest is a mystery.

Yeah, I, too, thought the first kanji would be 松. The second one might be 楓, so the artist name would be 松楓 Shōfū.

Hi I have attached an image of it. It was done on silk by a Japanese officer who was a Prisoner of War. Who gave it to an Australian serviceman he befriended.

黄金聖衣を取り戻したのも束の間、教皇の勅命でセイヤたち青銅聖闘士を抹殺するため白銀聖闘士が現れた。天と地ほどの実力差がある白銀を相手に、封じられた流星拳。

相手にする maybe? Or this に modifies 流星拳?

It's the former; the same meaning as 相手にして. It can't modify 流星拳 since 流星拳 is a noun.

I need a translation for "Mikuru-chan's love beam". There exists ミクルビーム in 涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 but how do I transform it to get "Mikuru-chan's love beam"? Could it be ミクルちゃんの愛のビーム either ミクルちゃんの愛ビーム or something else? P.S. it's not beam of Mikuru's love but love beam of Mikuru! 🙂:

Hi guys!!
I'm new here and I REALLY would like if some good soul could translate this frase that has been bugging me for a while

ミサイル予告で日米首脳対北朝鮮、発射強行を阻止

I read this on a japanese newspaper i bought for my studies and, at first, I translated it as: "Due to the north korean misille announcement, niponic-american leadership struggle to prevent it's launch."
But I don,t actually trust this translation haha and I'd like to get a more precise one.

Thanks in advance!

What is really written on the newspaper? Is it written horizontally or vertically? Aren't there any phrases/clauses following it?

Hi
The original News is this

Just when you replyed, I realized I was reading the phrase from left to right when it should be the opposite haha. Sorry for my beginner mistake.
But I still don't undertand the news
(Don't care for the stuff wrote by pen)

Yes, it is read from right to left. Furthermore, though, the larger text and smaller text of the headline are not meant to be read together as one continuous whole. Rather, they are two separate, but related, things, with the smaller one elaborating on the main, larger one.

If you are going to go to this kind of trouble to understand a news article, you are better off choosing an article paragraph, rather than the headline. Headlines are often highly abbreviated, and so are harder to interpret by themselves.

Here's the first paragraph. It's easier to work with in digital form, as you have more tools at your disposal to assist. If you can make sense of all of this, then you will better be able to understand the headline.

安倍晋三首相は15日、トランプ米大統領と電話会談し、米領グアム周辺に弾道ミサイル発射を予告した北朝鮮への対応に関し、日米や日米韓で緊密に連携し、発射を強行させないことが最も重要だとの認識で一致した。

Hi everybody, could you tell what this phrase mean / how can one translate this?
「ひぎっ!?」
I guess it's just an expression of surprise, but I haven't found it anywehere how to translate.
(I just have a chinese version, which says something like "wow".)

Hi guys I would like to ask what does this description mean ?
I have translated and it said energized, but what does that exactly mean, does it mean it can be turned on with the screen?
I want to buy a 3ds bulk from japan and this is the description the seller has given
【動作確認状況】 通電確認済です。
【商品状態】 撮影時画面のみ映りますが、ゲーム動作に不具合があります。 端子弱っているもの、ボタンの利きが鈍いもの含みます。 ほぼ全てにスレ、塗装剥がれがあります。
Would really appreciate if someone could confirm for me what it means
And thank you to those who replied to my past translation request !

It's another broken piece of junk you won't be able to play games on. Don't buy it.

Hi, I have a problem translating the phrase のう越後屋 from Haganai manga. You can se the phrase in small print on the first picture. The second one shows the whole page. There is no context for the phrase and I cannot figure out what it means. I was only able to find that Echigoya is the name of an old shop/merchant? But what does the whole expression mean then? The context is a bit complicated, but the boy in the frame and the two girls are kind of a group of friends, the blonde girls is smart and wealthy and quite popular, but sometimes also a bit dumb. The dark haired girl actually hates the blonde girl and is often mean to her.

Can someone help, please?

のう is an interjection, a classical version of old people's ねえ,
and 越後屋 is a typical synonym of shrewd merchant in historical plays. I don't know the context exactly, but he is talking to the girls (or one of them) in his mind, anyway.
